The Brown Bag Challenge!

Post by Dirt4dinner »

I have an idea...and I think it's from watching to many of these survival TV shows on Discovery. But bare with me....

A short overnighter (3-5 miles) where the only form of backpack you can bring is a brown grocery bag (modified with duct tape if necessary to make sure it stays in once piece).

I am thinking of trying this out when it's still slightly warm out...so maybe early Sept. I figure you can get 5 or 6 lbs in that bag without it falling apart...maybe more if you use lots of duct tape...but that might be called cheating when it's all said and done.

Anybody intersted? Time to go UBER LIGHT!

I am still working on dates for this, but it looks like monsoon afternoon storms are going strong for the next week. I am thinking late Sept would be a good time.

What are you guys thinking. That would give us enough time to perfect our brown bags!

Sept. 25th - 26th? Sat. and Sun.? Or a weekday? I can probably get one day off. Mid week is a little difficult for me, but might be able to work something out. I'm up for anywhere.

Weekdays are great for me, but that's going to weed out to many people. We will go with a weekend for sure. That weekend might be perfect.

Tentatitvely mark that as the weekend and we will revaluate in a few weeks.

A few times I've gone out with bare essentials, no map, no knowledge of the area and stayed several days just wandering around and testing my observational skills by not being a slave to a schedule or depending on my high tech comforts. Very enlightening. Southern utah has been a great place for that.

I can't do anything in September, it seems. Otherwise, Oct 2/3 might work for me. Don't feel obligated to plan around me though; my schedule's pretty crazy right now. If it works, it works. If not.. well another time maybe. :)

@RedRoxx44 that sounds phenomenal.. very nice.

I might be interested, but would want the danged thing slung over my back somehow.

After we do that, maybe we can try this:

You probably won't believe this but...I didn't know what the bag said until after my daughter took the picture
She also didn't tell me I had chickenwing sauce on my face.
