Early this year, a group of us spent a couple hours cleaning up the Little Four Peaks trail and then completing a "grand mother lode" hike of the peaks.

The biggest part of the effort was the ad-hoc gun range which provided a truckload of shells and destroyed objects. At the time, the forest service had put placed a big rock blocking the berm leading to the road/trail. We felt this would keep the shooters out and leave the trail nice and tidy.

After climbing Sunday, I swung by the trail to see how it was doing. We underestimated the shooters who had managed to move the one ton rock, smooth the berm and gain access to "their" range. It was impressive how much of a mess they could create in a short 8 months, esp. when that span covered the summer. They even managed to haul in a replacement for the shot up TV we had hauled away.

I take this as a shot accross the bow and will talk to the FS about how or what can be done to block the access. Then look for another "grand mother lode" posting with a bit of clean up.

Gosh, such a shame . Linda and I were just bragging to the workers of arizonahikers.com at our Hart Prairie work weekend about our clean up at LFP... well that was after we explained to them what and where the LFP was . The LFP clean-up is a little easier than what we did this weekend in that we at least made time for a hike too.
