Looking for a kid friendly day hike.
I have promised my 5 year old that I would take him on a day hike. I'm just not to sure where. I was thinking Perelta Trail of Dutchmans Trail. I think Bluff Spring might be a little tough for him. I need something that is car friendly also. Mainly just looking for something easy, maybe 5 or 6 miles round trip. I took him out last spring to Hieroglyphic Spring and he did pretty good. Any ideas would be helpful. Thanks.

Re: Looking for a kid friendly day hike.
Just some thoughts off the top of my head without any research -
I'm not sure of the distance, but First Water TH out Dutchman to Parker Pass would be my first choice. It has some elevation changes, is sort of constrained, has some neat rock formations and isn't too tough.
Lost Dutchman State Park (LDSP) to Siphon Draw is interesting, go as far up Siphon Draw as you feel comfortable and turn around. It has some long open stretches that might bore a 5yo.

Anybody can make a hike harder. The real skill comes in making the hike easier.

Re: Looking for a kid friendly day hike.
This is a great idea, part way up Siphon Draw, there is a turn off to the old Palmer mine site near a old foundation of a small building.(I think) Not much to look at, but you can make out the what used to be an entrance to the mine. Just a short side excursion. As we all know there are so many stories in the Superstions, and books, any kid would love to look into. This part of the trip is in one of the areas that maybe would be considered boring, I hate using that word but can think of nothing else at this time..Al_HikesAZ wrote:Lost Dutchman State Park (LDSP) to Siphon Draw is interesting, go as far up Siphon Draw as you feel comfortable and turn around. If you have never been to Tonto Natural Bridge, that may make a good hike for a 5 year old.

Re: Looking for a kid friendly day hike.
Thank you all for some really cool ideas. I want to get him out hiking more, and maybe a backpack trip in a year or so.

Totally agree with the Tonto Bridge! If it's fun for a 50 year old kid (which it IS, trust me), a 5 year old will love it!
