Backpacking gifts

Post by GrottoGirl »

Hi all,

My husband and I plan to exchange our Christmas gifts on a backpack this year. Therefore, I need ideas of what I can get him that:
- he doesn't have already (for the sake of not boring you I won't list what he already has)
- is ultra-lightweight
- is small

Any ideas???

Cheers!

Can I throw in a suggestion for Stone Russian Imperial Stout?

(and so long as it's a Christmas gift, might as well go Double Dead Guy ;) )

i always thought dad was talking to kid's imaginary friend, maynard

btw, many of us are serious beer drinkers who occasionally go backpacking. that being said you can now find "double dead guy"* and many other "man beers" (and women too :D ) like Racer 5 and Bell's Kalamazoo and Dogfish Head Raison D'etre at your finer stores...

If you are still looking for ideas - there are some relatively new gravity fed water filter setups on the market. So far they seem to be getting fairly good reviews. If I didn't have to watch my spending, I'd definitely want to give them a try.

I thought so too, but I couldn't find THAT commercial. Anyways, I've used that phrase since the 80s when the ad originally aired.

And I'm supposed to bring you a WHOLE bottle of bourbon still in the glass out for a 3 day backpack up to Cathedral Peak? Are would it be appropriate it pour it out into a plastic bottle and let you guess what I bought you?

I picked up some "Grand Canyon Pilsner" from a MB in Williams, and was pleasantly surprised! Not a bad brew at all!

I'm thinking more along the lines of a milkshake :-k ;)

But, I do prefer something with just a bit higher ABV this time of year. I had a bomber of Port Brewing's Santas Little Helper Imperial Stout the other day. Whoa, swept me off my feet! (10%. Of course, this was also after climbing for three hours then having only chips and salsa for dinner). Delicious, too.

It's probably tough to find so far afield, but one favorite among NJ/PA hikers is Blithering Idiot, from the Weyerbacher Brewing Company. It is aptly named.
