Humphrey Full-mooner

Post by Jim »

I just looked at my calendar and saw that December 21st is a full moon and the solstice. Celebrate in style and hike Humphrey via the Dutchman in the afternoon and come down after dark under a full moon. This depends on a lot of factors, but if weather and snow is good, then it will be a great hike. I'm probably jinxing us with a dry winter by posting this, but you never know, 2007-2008 was supposed to be dry and that was really good from December through February. March was dry, but thats a different topic. The only month that really matters for this event is December, so hope for a really wet and snowy one. On the Peaks anyway.

Showing your butt on Humphrey's in the winter sounds a little bit chilly :sl:

Unless this gets some interest in the next few weeks, I may cancel the event so I can hike it as I please, snow conditions or not.

Just to let you know, this may not work out as an overnight, a full moon hike, or just a regular hike: snowshoe or normal, as there could be storms over the period. There is a lot of room for speculation and the like, but this indicates potential for change and poor hiking weather on the Peaks at that time.

Best to monitor the NWS and other sources for potential weather hazards in the next few weeks.

Since we have virtually no snow and the forecast up to the weekend before this is saying no storms, I'm canceling. It wouldn't be a snowshoe hike, it wouldn't be a full moon hike, and I probably won't go up for a while until we get more snow, or not on this particular day anyway. Who knows, maybe we will get more and then I'll go, but I wouldn't count on snow this year.
