hiking plans and goals for 2011

Post by trekkin_gecko »

i'm taking the liberty of starting a new thread on this new year's day
happy new year, everyone!
just started posting my trips this year so i'm looking forward to looking back at this time next year
while i don't have specific mileage or elevation goals, my intentions are to hike consistently at least twice a week
i also swim, bike and run, so i'm trying to give all of my activities an equal shot
some plans include battleship mountain, a visit to the mt. peeley area, brown's peak, more hikes in the supes, and a week spent just hiking around tucson or sedona or flag
goals include a trail run or a good effort on camelback or piestewa peak once a week, and a longer hike on the weekends
hard, long or new as my 2011 theme
my wish list would include a trip to the san juans in colorado for some of the 14ers, but that's a long shot
joe, thanks for this great web site
i enjoy reading everybody's triplogs for ideas and inspiration
one more goal: learn to use a GPS instead of just playing with my etrex

A modest goal of hikeing 200 miles this year. Also spending as much time as possible hiking and exploring with the kids(5-5-3).

Beat my 2010 distance and AEG totals, plus do some trips I've been plotting out.

My goals for 2011 are 200,000' AEG and 500 miles. The AEG may be difficult because there aren't as many hikes out here with big elevation gains, but 500 miles is very doable.
Areas I intend to hit: Snow Mountain, Lassen NP, Point Reyes, Mount St. Helena, the Sierra Nevadas, Mendocino Coast, San Benito Mtns, the Pinnacles, and Big Sur. Crossing my fingers!

This year will be much of the same as last year. Hoping to make it out on weekend trips once a month, and break 100 miles for the year. Also want to start training and compete in this: http://www.toughmudder.com

Although I wouldn't mind upping my mileage I am most interested in continuing to hike areas I have not hiked before.

Talking about California, I have always wanted to backpack the Channel Islands.

My goals are really wimpy compared to most - but I'm getting them out there anyway. Helps to write things down to accomplish them, right?

I have 10 weeks left of pregnancy with baby #2 :y: (Lord willing that he doesn't come sooner) -- so after that in March would like to get out somewhere as a family of four and see wildflowers. Want to hike solo with new baby in the spring before it gets too hot around the McDowells during maternity leave. Family hikes in White Mtns this summer. Family trip to Grand Canyon in fall - short one to Cedar Ridge and back. Maybe oh maybe before the end of 2011 have some hikes with just me and my husband.

I would like to beat my mileage from 2010 (300 miles), sleep more nights in my hammock in the backcountry, and continue to explore places I haven't adventured to before. Looking forward to it!

I've not been very good at keeping track of my hikes the last few years, so I'm hoping to use the triplog more in 2011. I'm going with a goal of 365 miles, one mile per day, hiked this year.

Of course the rain today is kind of putting a cramp in my plan!
