If anyone is interested in doing this as a dayhike or backpack between January 5th and January January 17th let me know. It could be done as a dayhike I think, or we could take an easy pace and do it as an overnighter. Walk in permits shouldn't be too hard to get during this time period. If we do it as a dayhike I'd prefer to drive up the night before and camp somewhere so we can get an early start. Might be some snow and ice depending on the weather. When I was there a week or so ago there was no ice, but the trail was nice and mushy :yuck: Anyway reply here or send me a pm.
Regarding getting back to our cars afterward, I should be able to get us a ride back when we're done.

Re: Tonto Trail: Hermit to Bright Angel.
It might be a bit slower going with the snow that should be coming in this storm. I did this hike in October, and it took me a bit over 11 hours with water breaks at Monument Creek, and a couple of food breaks at Salt Creek and Horn Creek, and a final water refill at Indian Gardens. I am a steady hiker, not necessarily a speed demon at 62 years old though. I think the mileage came out to about 24.5 if I recall. Have fun...whether you do it as a day hike or an overnighter!

What are the odds? Liz and I are doing a BA to SK via the Tonto the same day.

That one he is doing is a lot longer. I did it as a backpack. It is a nice hike, though.
