Side Trips off Tonto

Post by autumnstars »

My husband and I have a permit for Hermit - Tonto - BA later this year.
On one of the days, we have to hike "only" from Granite Rapids to Cedar Spring for the next night's camp.
I worked this shorter day in with the thought that we could hang out by the river for much of the day, or go explore some other spots.
It's obvious that some on here go hiking at GC all the time, so I'm asking/looking for suggestions.

As background, my husband and I have been on some previous GC backpacking trips - R2R2R via the Kaibab Trails and down & back Hermit as a one-nighter. I have well-developed desert route finding skills over the past 10 years of both work and pleasure, so I'm not afraid of a something off the beaten path.

I'm always in favor of hanging out by the river, if there is time. I don't tire of it very quickly. I have done that trip you are doing, but did not go to Granite Rapids, only to Monument Creek campsites. It should be a lot of fun!
