@azdesertfather
I can never figure out their hiring strategy. I've put in my resume a couple times just for the heck of it and never heard anything back even with as much retail and management experience as I have.

Re: hiking jobs!
My assumption is that the subject matter experts are do not do resume screening: HR drones do. So, the key is not to tell the drone all your wonderful qualifications, but to make sure that as high up in your resume/cover letter as possible are the exact same keywords they put in the job notice. (Because if it is not the same, the drone does not know the difference/sameness or that the skill is transferable.) The key is snatch their attention in the five seconds you have it, and get the them to drop your info in the "maybe" box, which they will go back and review after giving five seconds to the other hundreds of resumes they get. At least that is my assumption. If there is an HR drone out there, speak otherwise.

Re: hiking jobs!
Holy cow. Glad I am just a school bus driver... Class B CDL, proper endorsements, etc. and a good driving record. That is all I need to tell them. I can get a job anywhere.
You know, they never taught us to write a resume in high school. They never taught it at community college. Now I am at a university, and I have not seen it as a required class to learn how. I had to go on the internet and get a template, and someone at DES helped me with one. Later on, I did an outdoorsy "targeted" resume which got me a job at a dude ranch as a recreation leader, which was a fun way to spend a working summer.
Just wanted to comment, though, that no one ever offered to teach me how. I had to go looking for the info. Seems odd, doesn't it, since it is supposed to be so important?
