I really like this web page, a great resource of AZ hikes. I would REALLY like to surprise my Girlfriend this weekend and take her on a hike that has amazing fall colors showing. I do not really know of any like this in my area (Prescott) and would like to go a little ways away from Prescott to hike... Does anyone know of any good trails that has good colors now? I was thinking somewhere around Payson or Flag, but I am not familiar with those areas at all....
I would appreciate any help from anyone!
Thanks.
Dominic
Welcome to HAZ, Dominic!
The Boynton topic is here. You might want to also consider the Inner Basin Trail, or the West Fork. If you're lucky enough to catch it at the right time, West Fork is breathtaking. But, you'd want to get there early. It gets crowded this time of year.
I don't think West Fork can be beat. But like Mike says get there early, I was there at 9 a.m. on Sunday and there was already a line of cars to get in. The colors are glorious right now. Also the aspens were aglow on the road to Snow Bowl.

I know that the Boyce-Thompson Arboretum has some awesome cottonwoods that will be in full color soon. It's a pretty neat place to spend some time. The last time I was there,we got to see some Bighorn Sheep on the mountainside.Call ahead for color info. Also the road that goes off #87 right past the general store at Sunflower leads to a creek with lots of cottonwoods and sycamores. Color in West Fork magnificent last Monday. I'm going tomorrow, also!
Plan on camping out in the first week of Nov. in the Verde Valley, hope the colors will last. This week I will be hiking in the Sunflower area. Regarding Boyce Thompson State Park, go further east apx. two mile and take an unmarked forest service road west of the Superior airstrip. This leads to a nice canopy of Cottonwoods. Park and hike over the ridge to the south and you are in the Arnett Creek.
Thanks for the info everyone, We actully got into Sedona yesterday and my girlfriend was not really feeling to good so we just drove up through flagstaff through oak creek and took periodical stops just to look around, it was really beautiful the whole drive though, and then we had SNOW in Flagstaff! Driving back to prescott was a mix of snow and fog, it was really nice..
