Good first backpack trip after injuries
I'm new to AZ and would like to start backpacking again. I've been away from it for 4 yrs due to injuries to neck, back and sternum (breastbone). I've been taking a day pack with extra stuff in it on all my hikes and doing okay. Just looking for a relatively easy, short route to start.

@BubbaSue
Here is a perfect choice (to schedule as soon as the Mogollon Rim secondary roads are confirmed open) "Houston Brothers Trail to Aspen Spring, AZ"..

Up in our neck of the woods you could backpack up on the Kaibab. Most trails that run north-south there are pretty mellow and good temps in the summer. Snake Gulch to Toothpick Canyon is relatively flat, and you can set up a base camp right there at the spring (a few miles in) and explore the canyons.

Re: Good first backpack trip after injuries
South Fork Trail # 97 http://hikearizona.com/decoder.php?ZTN=602 near Eagar/Springerville is a hike along a creek. Ignore the directions on the triplog, they tell you to start at Mexican Hay lake. I need to get with Joe (the site owner) to get that changed. No one starts the hike there! You start at the South Fork campground and hike along the creek. When the trail splits to go up to Mexican Hay Lake you ignore that, you take the right fork, and follow the creek trail up another couple miles. Lots of meadows. Lots of irises in June. Shady pines and aspens. Lots of elk.
