Anyone know of a place to enjoy solitude and hike/fish/camp
Does anyone know of an area where you are able to hike a good distance to a lake where you are able to camp out for a few nights? Looking to enjoy the beauty and solitude of the outdoors for a bit. I don't find it as peaceful camping in the campsites that are no more than 5 ft from each other. Anyone know of a place near Payson area that is like this?

Disperse Camp near Willow Springs, Woods Canyon or Black Canyon Lake. I park the jeep and head off into the forest and mtn.bike camp. I prefer Willow Springs, all lakes including Bear Canyon and Knoll can be busy during the weekends so I usually go during the week. I use campgrounds when meeting up with friends most of which seem to be directional challenged.

crackerjack rd, take it to e. verde with decent trout pools. its a lil warm now. wait till Oct.
chevelon is least used of all lakes, blue ridge second place but requires finicky campsite selection (steep walled canyon)

Re: Anyone know of a place to enjoy solitude and hike/fish/c
I camped @ Knoll Lake in the official campground 2 Memorial Day weekends ago, and it was about half-full. Of course there were a lot of "dispersed" campers along the road from FR 300 to Knoll Lake. I believe there are a few "unofficial" back country campsites along the southeast portion of Knoll Lake. No idea if the fishing is any good (ask user rlrjamy) because I didn't even dip a hook. Start at the Tonto Fish Hatchery and hike up to Knoll Lake (Babe Haught Trail) and pick your spot.

Lots of swimming holes, is what I like about that area. At least, during monsoon.
