My wife and I are about to do our first over night backpacking trip. Just one night.
I wanted something between 5-10 miles and 1.5-3 in difficulty and a good water source.
So I think Horton Creek would be great for us, but I do have one question. Do you need amphibous shoes or is the entire trail dry? I did read that you can hike the creek but I want to make sure we can hike the trail and stay dry.
Thanks

Re: Leaning Towards Horton Creek Trail
The whole trail is dry. It parallels the creek. Some of the best camping sites are located on the other side of the creek from the trail, but you should be able to get across dry or take your shoes off for the crossing.
I'm not sure what my spirit animal is, but I'm confident it has rabies.

We were there yesterday and it's closed. Derrick is open, but hot and not much shade.

Re: Leaning Towards Horton Creek Trail
Generally I avoid developed campgrounds, though I've encountered my share of hosts through the years, nearly all of whom have been very friendly and often knowledgable about the local area. I would also add that in my experience it would be accurate to say that most have some major issues.

Re: Leaning Towards Horton Creek Trail
I've only camped once in a developed campground and I was 8 so I had no choice.

I have ten issues. I usually dont remove them when crossing creeks, cause they are old and cost $5 to begin with.
