I recently upgraded to Paint Shop Pro X4. The only advice I can give? Don't do it. It completely goofs up digital photos. I posted this to their forum:
---------------------------
I've used PSP for years and have loved X2. I finally broke down and upgraded to X4. I've found that X4 seems to degrade the quality of my photos when doing simple resizing. The steps I use are:
Photo taken with a Nikon d3100 at ISO 200, 1/320sec, f10.0, 200mm
1. Open the original jpg in PSP X2 - size is 4608x3072
2. Resize to 800x533 - the default resolution is 300 pixels/inch
Results in a nice, smaller jpg.
In PSP X4, however, the Pixel/inch defaults to 72. Change that to 300, and with the same original resized to 800x533, the focus is horrible.

Their response?
"Similar issue have been posted here as well and I have already reported this to our Engineers and this is currently being investigated."

So why on earth would I (or you?) want a photo processing tool that degrades the quality of your pictures??? I don't get it. How the Pumpkin did this product get past any kind of QA? I've requested a refund, we'll see how 'customer friendly' Corel is these days...

Re: Don't buy PSP X4
Ever since Corel bought out JASC Paint Shop Pro has not been anything like the quality of days gone by.
When I got a new laptop the beginning of last year I made the mistake of purchasing PSP X3. It had so many bugs in it that after many pleas to tech support to come up with actual fixes instead of workarounds that I stopped using it, dug out my ancient copy of PSP v6.02 and have been happily using it ever since.
Good luck on a refund... although I had issues immediately after purchasing X3, by time I had given up there was no way Corel was going to refund my purchase. BTW, the Video Shop Pro X3 was as bad if not worse and I've relegated it to the scrap heap as well.
It seems like there is no such thing as real-world software testing any more... when Yahoo just did their latest web mail upgrade it broke their pay-for-service POP mail and the only response from Yahoo in a month of waiting is a lame Our Engineering Team has determined that there isn't an immediate fix for this issue, but they are continuing to work on a resolution for you.
