Who takes a firearm as hiking gear?

Post by kc7txm »

After getting a little grief from some fellow hikers recently we were curious to find out how many other hikers here hike with a firearm? Both Jane and I consider a firearm a normal hiking tool but I guess some people on the trails do not.

I've hiked all my life with firearms, I never thought of doing anything differently. If you want show and tell your tools.

Matt Karls (CZ 75B Military in 9x19 mm NATO normally *if you can't tell from my pictures*)

and

Jane Karls (S&W Model 12 Military and Police Airweight 38 Special +P)

There is nothing wrong with carrying a side arm, and it is totally legal in this state, as long as it is visible. Many people are unaware of that fact.

I usually carry a side arm when on overnight excursions. As far as hiking in the Supes, I don't pack a piece, although I wish I would have a couple of weeks ago around Charlebois Spring. ( A story in itself) and will rethink things depending on where I'm going.

When I carry it is a Bulgarian Makarov 9MM. (9x18)
Your biggest threat is probably being chased by Javelina, they can be quit agressive toward humans, and it will scare the crap out of you. Yelling and acting crazy( I don't have to act) :D will usually discourage them, but if it doesn't a warning shot may be necessary.
