Peralta Road- Dirt or Paved? Condtions?

Post by hvydrt »

I am going to be in the Phoenix area this weekend and I want to bag Superstition while I am there. I would like to hike it from Peralta Road-Carney Springs but I will have the family sedan. Is this road paved or at least graded dirt? Would I be better off hiking the hieroglyph route if I am limited to a car? Thanks for any info on the condition of this road. Anyone want to join me early AM Saturday? send me a PM.

No problem driving Peralta in a sedan. The road is gravel/dirt. It's about 6.5 miles to the Carney Springs trailhead on the dirt portion of Peralta. Are you doing peak 5057? If you're doing peak 5024 you might want to go up the Flatiron side.

I was just up Peralta Road two weeks ago and it's in good shape. Should be no problem in a family sedan or van.

Have fun~~~ Supes Peak is a great hike!

I was on the Peralta Road last Friday en route to the trailhead. The road is rough but passable even for a sedan. Take your time and no problems. Hope you have a good hike in the Superstitions.
On every trip into the Superstitions, I find another Gold Mine. Today the mine was filled with Memories. I can not wait for the next trip.

@hvydrt
As of this posting the Carney Parking/TH Start hike location off Peralta Road along with the correct "official" GPS one way hiking track http://hikearizona.com/map.php?QX=1233 should now be open for hiking access. Due to the present activity surrounding the Wed-11/23pm plane crash (HAZ forum topic viewtopic.php?f=64&t=6562 ), this Carney Parking/TH Start hiking access could change between now and your planned Saturday hike to summit Superstition Peak 5057. This Carney hike start location is also a very popular route to hike the entire Superstition Ridgeline from end (Carney) to end (Siphon Draw/Flat Iron/Superstition Peak 5024.. ie, where the plane crash now resides). I would bet that the authorities would immediately close the Carney and Lost Goldmine TH access areas for hiking IF they see any hikers attempting this Superstition Ridgeline hike from end to end.
