Dead body found in Grand Canyon National Park

by Associated Press (January 12th, 2012 @ 3:12pm)

GRAND CANYON NATIONAL PARK, Ariz. - Authorities at Grand Canyon National Park say a dead body has been found near Yaki Point on the South Kaibab Trail.

Park rangers received a call about 8 a.m. Thursday about a body being spotted about one-third mile from the trailhead.

The body of the unidentified man was carried by rangers to the rim and then transported to the park's Emergency Operations Center, where it was transferred to the Coconino County Medical Examiner.

Rangers say an investigation into the incident is being conducted by the National Park Service in collaboration with the county Medical Examiner.

Only 1/3 mile from the trailhead?
That makes it all the more tragic, somehow.
