Moving to Casa Grande / Phoenix / Kayenta / Anywhere
Well, I guess I'll have to change my screen name soon. My wife and I are going to be moving to Casa Grande before the end of the year. Listing the house for sale up in Page. No job yet, kinda scary, but my wife needs to go back to school full time. Even commuting to and from UofA, with the house prices in CG we'll save money over moving to El Pueblo. Big change - this will be my first time living off The Plateau since '99. Eeek!

So for the summer you are going to become "Rob the Low Desert Deserter" ;) and playRob del Desierto wrote:Bringing back the moving thread. While I will remain in CG for the time being, I am going to be living and working back in Page for the summer. Hooray!

Wish you jots of luck in the move and job hunting. Going to miss your descriptive hikes in the upper plateau and outstanding photos. The Superstitions are always looking for another friend. How about SuperstitiousRob?

Re: Moving to Casa Grande/Phoenix/Kayenta/Anywhere
I've already got a job - back at the dam again. Real fun, good pay, low stress. I love it. It beats the pants off of any summer job I could get here in CG, plus it utilizes my talents well (instead of just flipping burgers or selling stuff).

Yeah, things are well with us. Ely is finishing up her Masters and is looking for a full time job. We're looking at houses down here (renting at the moment).

Re: Moving to Casa Grande/Phoenix/Kayenta/Anywhere
Well, I guess this means that I'll have to plan a short trip up there this summer so you can show me your neck of the woods...
I've been to Lee's Ferry numerous times fishing, but have never been to Page/Powell area and have only driven through the North Kaibab area on the way to Utah....

Re: Moving to Casa Grande/Phoenix/Kayenta/Anywhere
I think some HAZ'ers need to take a "road trip" to visit Rob and Ely in Page.

Sounds like a dam good idea. We maybe even will get a dam tour out of the trip..Trishness wrote:I think some HAZ'ers need to take a "road trip" to visit Rob and Ely in Page.

Re: Moving to Casa Grande/Phoenix/Kayenta/Anywhere
Hey Liz, weren't we all talking about a backpack trip up there this summer anyway???? You were going to look into permits.

Re: Moving to Casa Grande/Phoenix/Kayenta/Anywhere
Yes. I want to do the Powell Plateau on the North Rim. I can't really get a permit from here, though, since the app has to be faxed. However, it is not a super popular trip, so probably I can get us a permit.

Re: Moving to Casa Grande/Phoenix/Kayenta/Anywhere
Well, we should really change the thread title, as I got a new job and will be moving to Alamogordo, New Mexico. The Sacramento Mts, the Organ Mts., Sierra Blanca, White Sands, the northern reaches of the Chihuahua Desert, 5 hours to the Catalina Mountains (a 2 hour improvement), Easy access to the Guadalupe Mts, The Gila Wilderness, and so on, and so forth. Plus, an improvement in the career world, but this is a hiking website. Plus, there is some sort of "Apple Farm" half way or so between Alamogordo and Cloudcroft that has apples, peaches and apricots for sale off the tree, in season. If you know me, you know I love my orchard fruits.

Re: Moving to Casa Grande/Phoenix/Kayenta/Anywhere
A Mennonite group has bought up a bit of the High Rolls garden areas... and is harvesting the abandoned orchards along the Cloudcroft hiway. Bought a bushel of apples a few weeks ago!Jim_H wrote: Plus, an improvement in the career world, but this is a hiking website. It will be interesting to see what you think about the hiking in the area. Do you have a projected relocation date? Might inspire me to finally get back into shape!

@Jim_H That's an interesting area. I like what I've seen of NM, even if it isn't AZ.
