The Hidden Pool in "127 Hours" ...

Post by paulshikleejr »

Is the hidden pool that James Franco, Kate Mara, and Amber Tamblyn goof around in real (as portrayed), real (but not nearly as cool/fun), real (but totally not as portrayed), or just a constructed set?

In the Wikipedia article for "127 Hours" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/127_Hours), it says: "The scenes early in the film of Ralston's encounter with the two hikers were altered to portray Ralston showing them a hidden pool, when in reality he just showed them some basic climbing moves."

KanyonKris states that the pool is at a resort (http://kanyonkris.blogspot.com/2010/11/127-hours.html), but the resort's Web site doesn't mention its facility was used as a location for the movie.

Other pages ridicule the pristine, unspoiled beauty of the pool as being "pure fantasy" (e.g., http://www.dailymail.co.uk/travel/artic ... world.html, http://alpineinstitute.blogspot.com/201 ... hours.html, http://www.bogley.com/forum/showthread. ... -My-Review).

So what's the truth?

The pools are not in the canyon but somewhere in a tourist trap in Homestead Utah.

Yes, the article by "KanyonKris" refers to a place apparently called "the Homestead" in Midway, Utah. This parallels your info nicely. I just don't remember the deck around the pool in the movie. Perhaps that deck was removed for filming. Thank you for the info.
