Stolen Car

Post by hippiepunkpirate »

HAZers! My car was stolen last night from my apartment at 75th ave and the 101 in Glendale. Please keep an eye out and if you see it, please call the police. I only have liability insurance on it so I will get nothing if it isn't found! It's a white 1994 Saturn Coupe. Here's a pic of it, there are lots of bumper stickers on the back so it is easily identifiable. Thanks! -HPP

Well, I'm not expecting to get mine back at this point. It's a Saturn, so we've assumed it got stolen for parts, as Saturn went under and their parts are a hot commodity, making Saturns a prime target for car thieves. Maybe with a little luck it will turn up, you never know...

Our Jeep Wrangler was stolen out of our driveway a few years back. They cut the steering wheel to get past the "The Club". It was just before Christmas. PD found it about 1 1/2 weeks later, 3 blocks away in an apartment complex, sitting on blocks. Someone had stolen it just for the wheels and tires. The Tow Truck did more damage to the vehicle than the thieves did, when they dragged it onto the flatbed.....

Had my mountain bike stolen out of garage Christmas morning two years ago. It's Sunnyslope, so I figured the bike still had to be in the neighborhood, but I haven't seen it yet ...

I have had 3 bikes stolen while living here over the last 16 years. One was stolen twice, caught two in the act of stealing it and trying to put it in a van full of bikes. I went out and they gave it right back. I got the license plate but that came up stolen too.

Isn't it!? Well, I got a new car on Saturday. It's a stick shift so I'm still learning how to drive it...so if anyone sees a white Honda Civic stalling at the intersections in the West Valley, it's probably me (or else somebody stole my new car too!)

True story: There's a festival in Milwaukee called "Summerfest". So, I was there as a kid, sitting on a curb, eating an ice cream. Saw a guy go by with a bicycle. Few minutes later, saw another heading the opposite direction with the same bicycle. Few minutes after that, saw a *third* guy head back the original direction with the same bicycle. Gotta be some kind of record!

Oh, see? With every cloud comes the silver lining: You're learning to drive a stick shift. You should enlist one of the many old farts on this board to help you with the finer points of how to not burn up your clutch. :)

I'm not an old fart, but I have had my fun with 5 speeds. I would go through a clutch a year. Lol.

Well I am an old fart and the first car I owned was a '63 Volkwagen Beetle with a stick. Best way to really learn how to drive, IMHO.... :D

I used to drive a stick in San Francisco. Now that takes some skill. :y: And learning to synchro with a synchromesh. Lots you can do with a stick - I think it was easier to pull a quick 180

In Norway there's a separate class of drivers license for automatic transmission cars. My grandmother was one of those people who was only allowed to drive an automatic. Her car is the only automatic I had ever seen in Norway.

If it wasn't for highway traffic I would much prefer standard. Unfortunately if bumper to bumper bs is part of your life, automatic is pretty convenient.

Yeah, my knee swells up just thinking about driving a stick on my commute. It sure is nice to have under the right circumstances, though.

My first driving lesson was in a stick. Hated it. Got out of the car and walked home. :)

We learned to drive tractors before we drove cars, and in those days tractors didn't have automatic transmissions.

My first driving lesson was an automatic, but it was a 68 Chrysler Newport. We called it the "Banana Boat" since it was big and yellow. I flunked my parallel parking test in that car. That's when I bought the Beetle and learned how to drive a stick going back and forth to MCC every day. It's ok, Jake, I stalled out the Beetle a few times before I got the hang of it, you'll be fine. You just can't text, drink, eat a burger, and drive at the same time. :D I'm just glad you were able to get another set of wheels. Good luck to you....
