Water conditions in Sycamore Canyon?
Going to go ahead and post this early so will hopefully catch somebody beforehand....would be nice to know the water conditions in Sycamore Canyon for planned Taylor Cabin trip on the 17th and 18th of January. If there is water also does anybody know if we will have to do a full on creek crossing or would there be the option of boulder hopping across. We will be taking the Dogie trail in if that helps to know where we would be crossing.

Re: Water conditions in Sycamore Canyon?
my inlaws were in town last week when we got all that rain. They drove up and spent the night in Sedona. I assumed (with confidence) that Sedona had a fresh foot of powder but they say it didnt snow at all and the temps were in the low 30's at night!
The Sycamore canyon drainage is huge but for some reason everytime i have gone it is dry. The only section with water is near and downstream from Parson's spring. Any water in Sycamore would be from recent (in the past few days) rains or snowmelt on the rim above. So far I dont have any beta on snow above.
current temps for Sedona are 29-30 for the weekend of Jan 3-4th.
as you know im only outfitted for temps in the very high teens so I always peek at the weather right b4 at trip. No worries.

Re: Water conditions in Sycamore Canyon?
I have been to Taylor cabin several times and water is always an issue. The spring season seems to be the best for water in the creek after a good snow in the high country. After rains there is a small pot that a gutter fills from the roof of the cabin I have filtered and there is a small drainage due east of the cabin where the original cattle people built a small cement dam to collect spring water. Awesome hike

Just thought I would bump this in the offchance someone has been out there in the past few days. Going out there sat-sun so it would be nice to know if we need to pack in all our water or if we can go a bit lighter.

Re: Water conditions in Sycamore Canyon?
Well thought I would post an update on this since we just got back. At least right now, when you first get down to the creek it's bone dry. It's not until about Taylor Cabin and upstream that the water is there and its flowing QUITE nicely and very deep in some spots.....also cold as ever living hell but clear. I'd imagine the cabin area should at the very least have some good sized pools for at least most of the spring months. More than likely it will be flowing for a bit and will continue to get fed by all the snow on the northern slopes of Casner and other nearby formations.

Re: Water conditions in Sycamore Canyon?
Undoubtedly there will be water in the big 25' x 30' hole about a 5 minute walk downstream of the cabin - likely the creek will be flowing near the cabin or just above. When you go, remember to refill some of the big jugs from the cabin for use by those in more dire straits later on this spring/summer.

Re: Water conditions in Sycamore Canyon?
Thanks for the info. Not sure if we'll make it now. My wife got swamped with homework, so we will see. I'll post up if we go.
