Adopt a trail

Post by dnaelting »

While hiking this weekend I heard a guy comment that they should have "Adopt a Trail" similar to "Adopt a highway." He brought this up because he thought the trail signs were too hard to read.

I like the idea, but my personal feeling is when you are out hiking, the trail you are on should be your "Adopt a trail." As I hike and find trash, I pick it up and pack it out (last hike it was a cig pkg and a water bottle). It seems most of you out there do the same thing. If I thought someone else would eventually pick up the trash, I might pass it by.

So let's all "Adopt a trail" Just make it the next trail you are hiking on!

Most people are good enough to do that. My collection for the week was 2 beercans 4 cigarette butts and a styrofoam tray that must have been out in the wilderness for years.

It really irritates me thinking someone had the foresight to pack IN a FULL beer, but not the ability to pack OUT an empty aluminum can. Or someone who pauses WHILE HIKING to view nature and smoke a cigarette and then just drop it on the ground...
