Digital Cameras Tips & Tricks???

I should be getting a Canon Powershot S30 tomorrow... I am not much of a camera buff but I would like to become one ;]

The only trick to taking good pictures...go out and take 150 pictures, pick out the best ones and never show anybody the other 145 pictures!

You will have a learning curve even if you are very adept with a film camera. Learn your editing software. As they say above, choose the few compositions that are the best and then work with the contrast, sharpness and color levels. Don't overdo any of them but experiment some. Learn how to size your photo down if you are going to email it or post it.

I like to use a tripod. It makes a much sharper photo even at higher shutter speeds. They sell a few good travel models. Just hold it below the camera and push down when making an exposure. Low light is no problem and makes some very interesting photos.

Take a spare charged battery and a good size Compact Flash card. You will shoot a lot more photos with digital. Get yourself a Flash Card Reader. It is the best way to transfer your photos to your PC unless they have come up with something better in the last couple of weeks.

I use a freeware program called " Irfanview " to size down and filter photos. You can also add special effects like pixilate or watercolor.

I have Image Composer that I have used quite alot and the software Arcsoft Carea Suite 1.1 came with the camera.

I got the camera today ;] It burned through the first battery charge in no time flat.... I agree about the batteries and I am gonna need alot of them ;]

Got my camera last week and also got a battery charger that will charge alkaline, lithium and nickel metal halide rechargeables. it works great, there's always a pair ready to go. Do not use alkalin batteries in the camera though.

I use a Bogen monopod as a hiking stick/camera suport on my digital. Also use rechargable hi capacity NiMh batteries (3 sets)

Speaking of batteries:

My kodak came with a 3v lithuim battery - it lasted quite a while - but finally gave out, I went to purchase a new one and found out they can only be gotten online... The salesman said I can use any AA batteries and suggested the $9 monster batteries. I bit, took em home and learned that these so called " monster batteries " will only live long enough to take about 9 pictures.

Kodak makes a docking station that doubles as a recharger / the kit also includes a rechargeable battery pack. I will try that next.
