PHOENIX --
It's an old Valley legend that character actor Walter Brennan had a hit record many years ago, and you could soon be playing a board game about it.
"In Legend of the Lost Dutchman, players take on the role of prospectors trying to find the ever-elusive mine of Jacob Waltz," said Patrick Nickel of Crash Games, a Phoenix-based board game design and publishing company.
Waltz was the Lost Dutchman who lived in the Valley in the 1800s and claimed to find the mine in the Superstition Mountains near Apache Junction.
He kept its location secret, and many people have died trying to find the mine and its treasure. Nickel said the board game has players facing obstacles in their search for the mine.
"They'll encounter various types of creatures, various types of disasters," said Nickel. "There's some treasure cards in there and treasure hunters that will help them along the way."
In order to put the game on the market, Crash Games is trying to raise money through http://www.kickstarter.com.
"How Kickstarter works is that you have a project with a defined start date and end date and a financial goal," Nickel said.
"People basically pledge different amounts of money towards your project. For their different pledge levels, they get appropriate amount of rewards."
Nickel said the company needs to raise about $30,000 to put the game on the market.

There is a very fine line between "hobby" and "mental illness."
