Starling mumuration video
A friend sent me this and I got the shivers. This is way cool and I would have given anything to be where these ladies were.
The video starts out with stills, then goes into motion. The music is perfect.
Enjoy..

Now that's bird watching.
This is my gym. I have to travel down a bumpy road to get there. There are no treadmillls, no machines, and no personal trainers. I walk..I run..I breathe the fresh air. I can go any time I want, as much as I want and there is no membership fee.

you both and my Uncle Bud who said to me as we were walking by the elephants at the Phx Zoo, "I wonder how many shots it would take to down him?" or something to that effect.Alston Neal wrote:Ooooooohh yeah and loaded with those flame throwing rounds that are popular with the bachelor party set....chumley wrote:Looks like a great spot for a 12-gauge... :STP: ;)![]()

For me, sometimes it's just as much about the journey as the destination.
Oh, and once in awhile, don't forget to look back at the trail you've traveled.

Re: Starling mumuration video
Pretty cool. The first time I saw birds to that I was standing with my daughter and then-boyfriend-now-husband across the street from the capital building in Rome. Didn't have a clue of what to make of it, the birds were way high up and it looked other-worldly. I did know I wasn't in Kansas anymore tho.

@Alston Neal
There were enough birds in that video to keep the feral cats fed for years!! And with the shotgun rounds you were referring to, they could have BBQ'd them...

@PLC92084It took you 24 hours to finally hit it. You're either slowing down, have a life, or showing more restraint..

@big_loadMy dear friend from Holland, being a brilliant engineer has a very simple explanation for this.
They are practicing.
What, I have no idea.

Re: Starling mumuration video
Thanks Guys...There's a somewhat Subtle funny Part in this Video too, I didn't get it right away until I watched it a few times and figured it out...At about 1:09, right in the middle of your Screen, there are 3 Sleeping Cranes and all of the Sudden, the 1 on the Left jumps straight up in the Air. I had to watch it a few Times to figure out why...Someone was being a Brat, lol

Hmm. (From the Cornell Lab of Ornithology)
Almost always, Hunt writes, these aerial spectacles are caused by a falcon near the edge of the flock. It turns out that the beauty of a murmuration’s movements often arises purely out of defense, as the starlings strive to put distance between themselves and the predator.

Re: Starling mumuration video
@big_load
That is very Possible...There were Raptors all over the Place in there. There were also so many Crows there at that Time, I'm thinking that the Crows were Disrupting them somewhat....It was interesting how the Flock would "roll" itself along the Ground as they fed too, they didn't stay in place very long at all...Almost like they were "grazing on the Fly".....I saw the same thing happen with the Snow Geese except it was several Hundred Geese that all of the sudden would Erupt into the Air, circle around a few Times and then Land again, right back where they were. And that didn't seem to be Raptor related as there was a Bald Eagle sitting in a Dead Tree out in the Open, less than 50 Yards away the whole Time....They didn't seem bothered with him at all, even though twice, Bald Eagles were Photographed in so many Days, dining on a Snow Goose....
