West Virginia

Post by RickVincent »

I'm leaving on Sept 21 to go white water rafting and hiking in West Virginia. We are rafting the Upper Gauley for a couple of days then plan to do some hiking for the next two days. Dolly Sods Wilderness is on my "interesting" list. Anyone know the WV area well enough to suggest a "Can't Miss" destination. Hike, climb, kayak, etc.

If I'm lucky I might be able to bring back some fall foliage pics from the Eastern/Central part of the state. I hear that area tends to reach peak color earlier than other parts of the state.
This is my gym. I have to travel down a bumpy road to get there. There are no treadmillls, no machines, and no personal trainers. I walk..I run..I breathe the fresh air. I can go any time I want, as much as I want and there is no membership fee.

There used to be a really swell swimming hole near Martinsburg, in an old quarry. It was extremely deep and had cliffs on one side to jump off. Of course, I haven't been there in over 40 years, so I don't know the state of it now... I sure loved the time I spent in Harper's Ferry and surrounding area.

I have heard about the Gauley, should be a lot of fun!
