guide for flat iron

I'm wondering if anyone on here can recommend a guide for flat iron. My dad and I took a hike up flat iron in 1994. My dad lived in Mesa for over 18 years and went on hikes a lot. I lost my dad 2 years ago and when we hiked the mountain in 1994 he buried a bottle with a note in it. I have the picture my dad took where x marks the spot where he buried the bottle. Now it's my goal to hike the mountain and find the note and see what it says. I only hiked it that one time with my dad so I thought getting a guide would be my best bet. If anyone can help me out please let me know. Thanks

don't think you need a guide for this hike
you can even hike it this time of year if you start early enough

lilzeke67....sorry you lost your dad

Not sure if you'll need a "guide" going up Flatiron as it is pretty straightforward and just follow the gaggles of peoples going up Siphon Draw. There are only a couple of places to get sidetracked once climbing out of the basin. If you are uncomfortable with that post an event and see if there are peeps who might want to take the trek with you.

Sorry for your loss. When do you want to hike up? How good of shape are you in? It's a tough one if you don't hike much. I might be interested in helping you find the bottle.

I'm in very good shape...That won't be a problem. I wanted to make the trip in December but I'm thinking there will be snow on top of the mountain then. So I'm thinking the best time would be in the spring.

It is rare for there to be snow up there. I wouldn't worry about that.

Agree with John. I live out near the Supes and have only seen snow up on Flatiron 2 or 3 times in 12 yrs.

Thanks for the info....it's ironic how much my dad loved Arizona and would bike and hike all the time...the desert caused his death...he had San Juan valley fever and battled it for over 2 years and we (family) figured it out via the Internet but it was to late. If he would have stayed in the state he loved the doctors there would have known and we would be hiking that mountain together. His birthday is this Wednesday! So Happy Birthday to a great man. I miss you dad and hopefully soon I will find your note in that bottle.

I'm so sorry for your loss. December is a wonderful time to hike in the Arizona desert (the snakes are hibernating). Like Trishness mentioned earlier in this string, post an event (proposed trip) and I'm sure you'll get a small army of participants to join you on your treasure hunt. By the way, to post an event just go to the bottom of the Home page and click the button labeled "post new event". Looks like December is totally open. Hope to see you then, or whenever you decide to make the hike.
