Rincon Creek Trail???

So, I guess that the Rincon Peak trail in the Rincon district of SNP has been so remote for so long (due to Madrona's closure) that no one 'round these parts has done a write up on it. I'm thinking it sounds like a fun one to try this winter - maybe go up to HV Saddle, camp, then hike down Rincon Creek and the new Quilter Trail to Loma Alta CG... Anyhow, I thought I'd cast out to see if anyone has any memory of the area and the chances for water in the lower reaches of Rincon Creek. Seems like a big darned drainage - and I know it'll depend on the rains, but - well - y'all know what I'm askin' about.

It's been surprisingly hard to keep up with HAZ now that I spend my whole day writing stuff on the internet, rather than sitting in front of the computer with nothing to do. I miss yous guys! ;)

There is water there and it's usually reliable. A trail crew just went through about five months ago so it should be nice and clear. They were also doing a frog inventory back in there recently so there must be plenty of standing water, but that will all be closer to Madrona. I seem to remember there being several tinajas down the major drainages south of the course of the trail before the real ascent begins.

I've been through once but I never wrote it up since I didn't really take notes. Let me know if you want the GPS track, but the trail is never easy to lose. The chances for water become more scarce as you start to ascend into Happy Valley and you remember what we went through getting water up there ;)

Thanks for the info - maybe I'll do it (and take notes) then write it up for the group. Nothing like a little on the ground research (my favorite kind!)

I've been interested in that area for a long time. This is such a freaking dry drought right now. Maybe around March or April would be a good time?

Probably closer to May...It starts to retain after we get a couple of showers. Right after/during the snow melt is also a good time for it.
