Roll-Your-Own Sedona

Post by montezumawell »

Well, hey, HOWDY! On February 6th, I took a 64-year-old Buddy on what we dubbed "The Sedona Trifecta." We did three trails and a short "spot stoll" in a day. We spent 4 hours on trail treads and covered 6.5 miles. He has a badly sprained ankle as he fell out of a tree last week so we couldn't walk much faster. We went to the top of Cathedral Rock, way out on the Jim Thompson Trail and then did Beaverhead. I also showed him the Solider Pass TH and we spent a wee bit of time walking out to look at the sinkhole. Anyway, yesterday's experience got me to wondering what YOU would think would be the best combination of trails for a single day. Which ones would you choose and how would you schedule them. There's two ways to look at this "math problem."
1)How would you do it if you had to get up and back from the metroplex in a single day?
2)How would you do it if you started from lodging in or near Sedona?

All of the guide books are replete with every little nut and bolt you'd every want to know about the trails there. But NONE of them give anyone a clue as to the menu options for anyone wanting to string together a series of hikes with appropriate "food breaks," etc.

Well, have at it.
