Skull Cave Trip 2.0!!

Post by Hippy »

Alright, I've been on this topic for ages, reading, researching, route planning, checking canoe/kayak rentals and water flow etc...
But my boyfriend and I have it planned to do it all over again this December 19th!
Last time we planned a 3 day and had to turn back after 2 because we ran out of water the next morning and hiked a few miles low on water to a nasty green bee infested puddle that we dug in to and filtered then boiled and covered the nasty taste with tang....hot, sweet, life saving tang!! :yuck:

So more water, less useless gear, brighter lights, same boots! (thank goodness for Timberlands!!), got maps and tracks (the latter were nearly useless last time, e ended up always just 200+ feet away from the tracks but it worked more or less)

So...here I am, telling you, that in less than a month we're heading out for Skull Cave Trip 2.0...words of advice? warning? tips?
Lay it out folks! We will make it this time darn it!! : rambo :

oh, p.s...not bring the dog this time!!! NO DOGS!!! So much cholla even I could barely squeeze through some spots!

oh hush...the superstition wilderness sounds much more hard core than "four peaks" does when you're telling the story afterwards...besides, it's close enough!

anyway, my sexy new map has both four peaks and supes wilderness areas on it with skull cave smack dab in the middle :worthy: it's one attractive map!

PLC why don't you just come along anyway since you're always poking your nose into it!! ;)

We're setting out again for what we are hopeful will be the FINAL trip out to the cave.
Feb 8,9,10 2013 (fri/sat/sun) we probably won't do all 3 days, if it's just me and GOYAAH then we might go crazy and bum rush it in one day with little to no gear :sl: probably the worst idea I've had in quite a while.
but most likely we'll be doing this as a 2 day 1 night adventure and not even cold wet muddy boots can stop us this time

i'm pretty sure it will just be me and Vince going but this is my invitation to you all, rather anyone crazy enough to put themselves through this torture, I'm not making an event of it but if you're interested shoot me a PM.

Its been 3 years since I made that awesome trip out there. I've learned to become one with the cholla on more than one occassion since. That area is stunningly beautiful and virtually untouched. The canyons are wicked cool and I guess I must want to go back. :o :y:
