Water on the Marsh Valley Loop (Supes) in October?
Hiking the Marsh Valley Loop in the Superstitions next week and I wondered if anyone knows if there will be a good source of water along the trail for filtering. Any help is appreciated!
Thanks

A short jaunt up Needle Canyon (from the Boulder Trail) should yield a couple of pools. Through-hiking Needle Canyon makes for a nice alternative to the Cavalry/Dutchman , as it takes Bull Pass out of play. (Te-Wa - note spelling ;) )

There was water on Second water before you drop into boulder canyon last Monday. I think I posted a picture on first water to canyon lake hike.

I'm planning a Marsh Valley Loop overnight on January 19-20 with approximately 6-8 people. Direction will be clockwise. Given we will be camping somewhere near Marsh Valley, anyone have any knowledge of the water sources for the nearby area and and estimate how they will be doing in two and a half weeks, assuming we get no additional rain before then?

hpp
i hiked marsh valley loop last year on 2-26
there was water flowing in labarge creek, and in the creek that bull pass trail crosses
i didn't stay on dutchman's as i wanted to go up black top mesa
pretty sure there was water in boulder creek, but that's kinda early
have no idea how recently it had rained
this is a beautiful loop

You'll be relatively close to Charlebois Spring which is reliable. Besides that there is plenty of water out there right now that should last most of the winter. Your group will be fine.hippiepunkpirate wrote:Given we will be camping somewhere near Marsh Valley, anyone have any knowledge of the water sources for the nearby area and and estimate how they will be doing in two and a half weeks

HPP,
I'll be out there doing this as a day hike with friends the weekend of 01-12-13 (going clockwise) so will get a report back to you. If I forget just PM me. Any idea where you were planning on camping?

Yes, there will be plenty of water out there.
Camp here: good campsite away from the trail and near La Barge: 33.472731 -111.365752
If you want to add a little extra, I recommend going down Needle canyon to Boulder cyn on day 2 but it is off trail with packs...

@Trishness
I don't have anything specific in mind as I have not any of this route beyond the Second Water Trail - Boulder Canyon Trail junction. But most likely, somewhere in La Barge Canyon that is pleasant with nearby water, perhaps where mazatzal recommends.

Will still get back to you on the water situation but I'm sure you'll be fine.

Re: Water on the Marsh Valley Loop (Supes) in October?
Anybody done any part of Marsh Valley via First Water within the last week? Just wanted to try to get some final info on where the water is before I go this weekend. Planning on camping along the Calvary Trail in the La Barge Creek / Marsh Valley area. I'm planning on tanking up at Boulder Creek unless anybody has seen a good supply along Calvary recently. I'm not worried about being able to find water, I'm just trying to plan to avoid having to go to Charlebois for water.
