I am in Apache Junction. Is there anywhere I can purchase stove cannisters (small ones) nearby without having to drive in to REI?
thanks

There might be a Dick's Sporting Goods or a Sports Chalet that's a little closer to you than the REI in Tempe...

I don't believe that normal walmarts carry fuel canisters (except propane). But besides REI, Ralphie's Red Ryder, and Sports Chalet you can find them at Big 5 and Sports Authority. Plus Cabelas and Bass Pro. Neither of which is any closer to AJ than REI. Some ACE and True Value stores carry them too.
And you can't order them online due to the hazards of shipping them by mail.

Re: Small stove cannisters
You say 'small'. So you may mean the 4 oz. (+/- 110 g) size (like used in a jetboil), but Walmart carries just the 8 oz. (+/- 220g) ones - their # for it is 0007650121577, provided so that you can phone ahead to see that they have them in stock - if that is what you are after. There is also a 16 oz size (+/- 440g) available.

I'm in AJ also. Try Big 5 at Signal Butte and Apache Trail next to Bashas. I think they carry them
