"But she acknowledged longstanding opposition to the mine from American Indian tribes and environmental groups, many of whom contributed to Kirkpatrick’s return to Congress this year. The groups worry the mine will threaten the region’s water supply, harm sacred tribal grounds and destroy land in the Tonto National Forest enjoyed by campers and rock climbers. Opponents question the mine’s job-creation figures."
Sounds like everyone is working to get Resolution Mining in business in Superior...

Re: Superior Mine going through?
The land exchange includes the 6L ranch along Cave Creek. Resolution says that's a valuable property... Yet it is completely inaccessible since Spur Cross was created.

Re: Superior Mine going through?
The mine will win, big money, Second hand states it is the largest copper strike in continental US. The new no 9 shaft is to be about 10K deep? One miner told Brian they drilled through a gold "cap" that was almost a foot thick. They'll honeycomb the underground then flood, fill it when they are done. Then, in the future, sink holes-----

@RedRoxx44
I agree 100% with you. I've read a great deal about this over the years and it will win undoubtedly.

Oak Flat/ Queen Creek Mining Video
I have spent ALOT of time sleeping in the dirt of Oak Flat and climbing /bouldering around the Queen Creek area in the past.
I stopped climbing all together after my heel exploded as the result of a fall.
Any way I was wondering the current state of the mining operation and access and came across this video.
I did a search and didn't see where it had been posted before so figured I would share.

Re: Superior Mine going through?
The House will be voting on HR 687 tomorrow, September 19, so contact your Representative today!
FYI, HR 687 is the land swap... Oak Flat for scrub land bought up on the cheap by dummy corporations of Resolution Copper in preparation for the land swap.
One of the fronts is Integrity Land & Cattle LLC.
Hmmm, makes it sound like they were buying up land for grazing (land already over-grazed) and that they had integrity when in fact neither part is accurate.
BTW, if the bill is not voted down it will head on to the Senate, where both Kyl and McCain plan on voting FOR the land swap (HR 1904). Just shows neither cares about AZ, just big business. The business that will suck up tons and tons of water to use for the operation and although the mining will be a mile below, ultimately the ground above will collapse and we'll have a new Crater Park.
Yeah, right... more like
What a deal huh? Swap Oak Creek park for a crater years down the line, and not one dime will be paid to Arizona or the US for royalties... the $$ will go to England (Rio Tinto) and Australia (BHP Billiton), the two owners of Resolution Copper.

Re: Superior Mine going through?
The land-swap resolution HR 687 was wrapped inside another resolution and was passed for consideration, so the next step .
My rep, Matt Salmon voted FOR it. :guilty:
So now on to the Senate where both Kyl & McCain are all for it... I wonder how many $$ Resolution Copper will line their pockets with.
On another note... it is simply mind-numbing to try and understand how things work (or don't work) in Congress.
For instance, on the 1st vote, HR 3102 (Nutrition Reform and Work Opportunity Act) failed 193-230 (yeah/nays) with ALL the Republicans voting against it.
But... on the 2nd vote it was PASSED 217-210.
Ok, so on the surface it looks like a small number changed their vote but looking underneath the table reveals a different story...
* ALL the Democrats switched from Yeah to Nay
* 216 (ALL but 16) Republicans switched from Nay to Yeah
Makes as much sense as a fence post, or since there's 453 of them, maybe even a bunch of rocks
