Sounds like the nut, Karl Wallenda, who tight roped across Tallulah Gorge here in GA. Something like 800 feet up, not that it matters. 200, 800, 1500, either way "Wallenda Soup"! The tower he used to secure his rope is still there, pushed over, of course. The reason the tower was pushed over, it got idiots thinking (Or not thinking, however you want to put it!). It will there too!! I can hear it now "hold my beer and watch this......"

Wallenda- "I’m looking forward to showing the audience a view of the canyon they’ve never seen before.” Ummm, if I remember right, helicopter tours fly often..... so he's really not showing the audience much, except maybe the view of 32.2f/s/s.... to the river......

200 feet is different than 800 feet. Takes about 350 feet to reach terminal velocity, assuming you are flapping, of about 120 mph. Head up, or head down, aerodynamic form, terminal velocity is about 190 mph. Not sure how many feet that takes. Question is, is there a difference between smacking into something at 80 versus 120 mph? Yeah. People have survived partial parachute failures -- May West, cigar roll, etc. all of which provide more drag, slowing speed -- sometimes even without broken bones. Another factor is where you land, rock obviously being sub-optimal. I saw a parachute accident once where the two guys (who got entangled) landed in a muddy field. Both survived, though with some injury.

I've always been fascinated with the terminal velocity of cats.

You wont hit terminal at 350ft. I saw a guy hit from 486ft and he was only doing about 80mph. At around 750-800 you will hit terminal (belly to earth) a bit quicker if standing. Remember terminal is when an object stops accelerating, and can be manipulated easily.

I'm suprised the Navajos are letting him do this since they have pretty much banned most stuff that happens in that canyon recently.
