Sunflower Fire
Sunflower Fire 2012 - Perimeter Map
Firefighter friend posted a video of a new fire that began this morning near Sunflower, south of Payson. They've got two air tankers on it already, so hopefully they get it under control today. With the warm weather coming next week, it will be tougher to fight. Appears to be kicking up quite a bit of smoke.
Besides my friend's video, the only "official" news I could find is here:

Re: Sunflower Fire
I agree too as long as we can correctly imply that "foot traffic" is allowed in this defined Prohibited area since "foot traffic" is not specifically stated as Prohibited ? It does seem to me that if "foot traffic" was allowed that it would be stated as such in the Exemptions section of this new Order Number 12-12-037 rather than be left open to interpretation?mazatzal wrote:by mazatzal » Oct 03 2012 01:34 pm
@rlrjamy @Sredfield
I agree - that's much better than what I thought initially. Thank you.

Re: Sunflower Fire
So no motorized vehicles and no camping in the area? Sweet.

Re: Sunflower Fire
I read this from the perspective that the public domain is open unless specifically closed. The order prohibits "Possess(ion) or use any type of motorized vehicle on the roads in the area described. . . . and, 2. Camping in the area." I don't want to over think it.

Re: Sunflower Fire
Yup. Most likely because the fire burned mostly in a wilderness area and didn't destroy any homes or private property. No angry homeowners or insurance companies demanding justice.

He should have at least gotten the Community Service penalty, given how much Community Service it took to deal with the fire.

It pays to read the complete article, including the last line. ;)big_load wrote:He should have at least gotten the Community Service penalty
Shiflet, in addition to the two years of probation, also has to do community service, and pay a couple thousand bucks in fines.
BTW, I do agree he got off too easy.

The bottom of the article says:
"Shiflet, in addition to the two years of probation, also has to do community service, and pay a couple thousand bucks in fines."
Let's hope that the community service is in thousands of hours.... :STP:

Ah, I see. The story I read in another source had it different, but this looks consistent with what else I've been able to find.CannondaleKid wrote:It pays to read the complete article, including the last line. ;)big_load wrote:He should have at least gotten the Community Service penalty
