Black River this Sunday July 7
I'm taking a run down to the Black River on Sunday, might like a bit of company. I'm not hiking far, no more than 6-8 miles round trip. I'll be going downstream from Wildcat Bridge. You'll get your feet wet. I generally wear old boots, old shoes, or Tevas with neoprene socks--I don't change my shoes at each crossing, I just keep hiking. I'll be scouting for campsites and swimming holes for an upcoming backpack trip. I'll be leaving Eagar pretty early in the morning.

I should have posted this sooner. There's still time, but you would have to drive up this afternoon, at the latest. Unless you leave Phoenix at 3 a.m. on Sunday...

@azbackpackr
Oh sure why not...3 a.m. what the heck
Which would also be about the same time that we would get home.
Have fun!

That's what Joe and the boys had done when we saw them up on Baldy. (Which is a shorter drive, but a longer hike.)

Yes we do! We hike, as often as possible. The rest of it is so forgettable...Tortoise Hiker wrote:[-XAlston Neal wrote:Some of us have lives

@azbackpackr do you happen to know if the tribes (San Carlos, Fort Apache, etc.) issue permits to off-trail hike to the confluence of the White and Black?

@arizona_water
Hi, sorry, I really don't know. I always stayed on the National Forest end of the Black River. I wouldn't be surprised if they did though.

If it were me, I'd get both. For Apache, get the Special Use permit that applies to black/salt river.

@JoelHazelton
Yup, I have a few experiences with getting those, they seem to be pretty liberal about where and what you can do once you pay them...White Mountain permit did however come with a guide showing forbidden areas, so maybe double check that...
