Black Canyon Colorado River Kayak

Post by RickVincent »

October 7: Meet up at Willow Beach between 7am-7:30am for shuttle provided by Desert River Outfitters (1-888-kayak-33). Permits may be arranged through Desert River for $17/person. Shuttle fee is $35 per boat (so if you have a 2-person kayak, that's still only $35). If you need a rental kayak, then the cost is $85 for the rental and shuttle. Desert River will pick up at Willow Beach, take us up to the Hacienda Hotel in Nevada for a security check (required for launch below Hoover Dam). Launch is scheduled for 9am.

Plan is to hike side canyons along the route and stop at AZ Hot Springs for the night.

October 8: Pack up the next morning, hike White Rock Canyon and AZ Hot Springs, then paddle out towards Emerald Cave and ultimately to our take-out location at Willow Beach.
This is my gym. I have to travel down a bumpy road to get there. There are no treadmillls, no machines, and no personal trainers. I walk..I run..I breathe the fresh air. I can go any time I want, as much as I want and there is no membership fee.

Well, shoot. Wrong week for me. I had signed up for the (less popular but totally awesome) Walter's Camp to Squaw Lake lower Colorado River run, through the Imperial Nat'l. Wildlife Refuge. But that trip was cancelled. I still have the time off, but it's later in October. All dressed up with a new sea kayak, cart, dry bags, deck bag, paddle, etc., and no place to go! After I move I hope to have more time.

No problem finding people who are interested in an event. Lining up available dates that will work with everyone's schedules is always the challenge.
