Aravaipa Canyon Backpack
I have 3 spots open for Aravaipa Canyon next Friday, Saturday and Sunday (Oct. 11-13). That's IF the government has resumed business, of course. This is my first time to Aravaipa, so it will be a very leisurely hike, and will consist primarily of hiking from one end of the canyon to the other, and camping in one spot both nights.

Re: Aravaipa Canyon Backpack
Hey you all, I can't go on my pal, Trailhappy's backpacking trip to Aravaipa, but she is a great organizer, and it will be a fun trip. Hope some of you have the time to go.

Re: Aravaipa Canyon Backpack
BLM lands are closed to entry too. They may have barriers and 'No Trespassing' signs out. Hopefully all will be back to normal by next week...

Re: Aravaipa Canyon Backpack
I figured as much since it is administered by BLM, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

Re: Aravaipa Canyon Backpack
Hi TrailHappy- Just curious if you were able to access Aravaipa Canyon for your trip. We've got permits for later in the month.

She was not. Instead, her group stayed at Catalina State Park, and did dayhikes around Tucson.johnmc22 wrote:Hi TrailHappy- Just curious if you were able to access Aravaipa Canyon for your trip. We've got permits for later in the month.

Thanks azbackpackr. That's what I figured, but I thought I'd confirm. I think our group is still OK as our permits aren't until next week. Let's hope the government gets it together this week.

Re: Aravaipa Canyon Backpack
Sorry johnmc22, I responded last night, but for some reason it didn't seem to go through. Strange! Since the Dept of Interior website had strict warnings about accessing federal wilderness areas, I thought we had better play it safe and chose some alternate dayhikes instead. Fortunately Tucson has a lot of hiking options that don't all include federal lands. I hope the government has finished their nonsense and that you have a successful trip! Maybe I can try again for Aravaipa next year...
