Yep! It's that time of Year again...The Holidays are fast approaching and everyone is starting to make plans....I try to pick Peaks that are not too close in so hopefully we won't get too many crowds...2 Years ago, I went SE of Town, last Year, NW, so this Year, it's NE...Stewart Mountain...And as a Bonus, 3 Peaks almost for the Price of One if you so desire...The Party will commence on the Main Peak with views of Saguaro Lake...This Hike is all Off Trail, so keep that in mind when signing up, but from what I've gathered, the Bushwacking is very minimal...Parking may be interesting depending on how many people we get this Year, but I will scout that out in Advance. Also, if we get more people than last Year, I may ask for Volunteers to help carry Goodies, so I don't have to break out the Big Backpack....

Start Time: 9:00 A.M. Early enough so people can do other things that day, but late enough so it's not frosty and people can recover from the Night before....Hope you all will join us this Year and help Ring in a New One....

Sounds perfect. My new year's resolution is to do more hiking without pants!BobP wrote:I just saw the writeup by Joeyb and he quoted "Boots are necessary but pants aren't. "

funny that this should come up as I was finishing off picking my vacation days for the year wondering if Pam was going to put on the New Year's hike this year. I think I could be in.
For me, sometimes it's just as much about the journey as the destination.
Oh, and once in awhile, don't forget to look back at the trail you've traveled.

I looked, and was surprised to find no HAZ thongs available. Joe? :whistle:BobP wrote:"Boots are necessary but pants aren't. "
I can bring one and carry one (or more). Any requests?
Extra Brut (less than 6 grams of residual sugar per liter)
Brut (less than 12 grams)
Extra Dry (between 12 and 17 grams)
Sec (between 17 and 32 grams)
Demi-sec (between 32 and 50 grams)
Doux (50 grams)
Having done Stewart before, I'm shooting for a Trifecta, with the obligatory summit toast for each.

I have not stayed up until midnight on New Year's for at least 25 years, and I refuse to start now.

Re Re the New Year's Day Tradition Continues.....
I was living in Eagar, and the TEP power plant "pyros" were planning a fireworks display, and it was to be very grand. So, I set my alarm for 11 p.m. and got up and went to it with my family. Trying to stay awake is just a drag for me, when all I feel like doing is going to sleep, but that way worked very well. So, I guess that is the exception to my previous statement, although I didn't actually STAY up, I went to bed for at least 3 hours, and then GOT up!kingsnake wrote:I did not even stay up for y2k New Years ...

We usually go for a bike (motorcycle) ride on NYD, because we can. If we go that direction we'll wave at ya when you're by the big reflector thingy on the top of Stewart Mnt.

I'm fine with a Summit Toast on each, but that could be a lot of Bottles...We went through 3 like they were nothing last year with 11 of the 13 people...And that was just one Peak....

Re: the New Year's Day Tradition Continues.....
Sooo...I checked out the Parking situation for this yesterday. Looks like the Parking is going to be just along the Shoulder of Bush Highway. There are plenty of spots to pull off near the turnoff to Butcher Jones which tends to be where those that have gone before have done it. I think we could "stage" on the north side of the Beeline in the cul-de-sac, you just can't park there. Unfortunately, the OHV area closer to the "TH", was closed and the Gates locked yesterday. I don't know if that's Seasonal thing or because of the Holiday, but since we are going on a Holiday, I have to go by the assumption that it will be closed for us as well. If you are uncomfortable just Parking on the Shoulder, maybe arrange to meet someone else going in Fountain Hills? I cannot carpool as I have another commitment that will not allow me to be too flexible.
If some of you that are still "interested" could try to commit at least a couple of days beforehand, that would be helpful, as it takes a little more prep time on my part and kinda knowing the "numbers", would be a very good thing.

Re: the New Year's Day Tradition Continues.....
It just occured to me that with my wife coming back on 12/30, after three weeks away, it *might* be a good idea to spend New Years with her, rather than traipsing through the desert. I'm a guy, so sometimes the obvious takes time to register ...
