Moving to Casa Grande / Phoenix / Kayenta / Anywhere

Well, I guess I'll have to change my screen name soon. My wife and I are going to be moving to Casa Grande before the end of the year. Listing the house for sale up in Page. No job yet, kinda scary, but my wife needs to go back to school full time. Even commuting to and from UofA, with the house prices in CG we'll save money over moving to El Pueblo. Big change - this will be my first time living off The Plateau since '99. Eeek!

No that is the tourist adventure part of it ..this is people that they need to help with the digs and in the new museum and in the prepping area showing people that pay how to do it... I have volunteered for this and the sessions fill up fast... With a waiting list.. that money includes lodging, food and snacks...

Last week, when asked by my boss what my timetable is for getting myself out of here, I told her that if I am not gone from here by November 1st she should just get a gun and shoot me.

For sale sign, (an official one this time, with a real contract and proper listing) went up last night, FINALLY.

Where am I going? Somewhere warmer in winter, of course! Actually, the plan is that I will go to Valley Center, California (a North San Diego County rural community) to stay at my son's while he is deployed and help my DIL and granddaughter until about March or so. By then I hope to own a motorhome, or be well-employed, (or something!) It's sort of vague. I'll be working on my master's degree, online, so I can live anywhere. I've been looking at places to park an RV in Camp Verde and Cottonwood. Also Flagstaff, for summer. There are some prospects. The idea is to keep the rent under $200 per month.

The only problem with it is the roof. Couldn't put a kayak on top of it. Otherwise, it looks quite comfy!

Most of everything I own is still over there, though, in storage. Sigh...

I'm sure people saw my old car, loaded down, and said, "Here come the Joads!"

So, here I am, in San Diego County, where I grew up. I'll be staying at my son's for a while, which is about 20 miles from the cemetery where my great-grandparents are buried.

In the photo, you see I have my Perception Shadow kayak, my mountain bike, an extension ladder (for my son) a lawn chair, and 11 flowerpots (for another family member.) The trunk, front and back seats, back dashboard, full to the roof! I just had to make sure I could see right-hand side mirror. Could not see out of inside rear-view mirror.

And yes, that is a HAZ sticker, middle of bumper.

Sure, it might not be your ideal situation, but neither is Alamogordo, for me. It's a temporary step up. I'm not in Kayenta, anymore! Then again, I'm not in Flagstaff, either. Well, Flag isn't horrible, and I wouldn't mind visiting Flag, I just don't want to live there outside of the months of June to September. I suppose I could visit anytime of year so long as it isn't windy.

Ask me in a PM. And I said the "Joads" to see if anyone on this board would catch it. But instead of realizing I was referring to a work by a certain Nobel Prize winner from California, instead I get the very predictable and somewhat déclassé references to a really lousy TV show. Sigh. Can't win sometimes...

I'm very grumpy, I admit. Moving is hard. Also, it's very depressing to feel completely displaced. Not having my own place is very hard for me. At least when I lived in Flag for one year I paid for a room and I decorated it how I wanted, but here I am in my son's office with all his military awards on the wall. Sure, I'm proud of him, but it's not my space. But, I felt I had to move, so maybe I will do better later on. I actually became physically ill from exhaustion, and so far I have not completely recovered.

So, there are other HAZers who aren't perfectly set where they want to be, and have in fact had a tough time of it, and see it as less than desirable? Not just a situation to somehow see as, "be happy where you lay your hat."? Well, isn't that refreshing.

Why do you think that is? Have you ever lived out here? You seem to like, or tolerate very well, living in NJ? I was asked if I would be visiting family next month back east, and no part of that sound pleasant. Just don't want to waste time and money going there, not at that time of year.

I'm well into my 40's and 2012 my life was like a country song. Lost my job, my house plus to top it off my dog died. Hiking and climbing kept me sane and 2013 was the year for me to bounce back. Looking back my life is a lot easier now that everything that I own could fit in the back of a pick up truck or two.
