Yep! It's that time of Year again...The Holidays are fast approaching and everyone is starting to make plans....I try to pick Peaks that are not too close in so hopefully we won't get too many crowds...2 Years ago, I went SE of Town, last Year, NW, so this Year, it's NE...Stewart Mountain...And as a Bonus, 3 Peaks almost for the Price of One if you so desire...The Party will commence on the Main Peak with views of Saguaro Lake...This Hike is all Off Trail, so keep that in mind when signing up, but from what I've gathered, the Bushwacking is very minimal...Parking may be interesting depending on how many people we get this Year, but I will scout that out in Advance. Also, if we get more people than last Year, I may ask for Volunteers to help carry Goodies, so I don't have to break out the Big Backpack....

Start Time: 9:00 A.M. Early enough so people can do other things that day, but late enough so it's not frosty and people can recover from the Night before....Hope you all will join us this Year and help Ring in a New One....

I'll be coming from north Phoenix (35th Ave and Pinnacle Peak) and have room for 1 if anyone wants a lift.
I'll be bringing 1 bottle of bubbly and can carry one of Pam's.
I'll be fully clothed for the Trifecta but can't make any promises beyond that.

Re: the New Year's Day Tradition Continues.....
And for those of you still on the Fence....If it would be at all possible for you all to Yea or Nay this by Monday Evening, that would be really awesome....I am shopping for this on Tuesday...I really hate to spend the Money and Time to account for people that may or may not come, as I will be Buying and Baking for this....Having some good Numbers would really help me out if it's at all possible for you guys....
This is a really fun Event for all Hikers of all Speeds (as I can attest, since I'm one of the Slowest of them all) Everybody is great and we have a lot of fun on the Peak...It is a Party that you Hike to basically.....So Join Us! You won't regret it! Just keep in mind that it is entirely "Off-Trail" this Year with a little Scrambling most likely...The Views should be Stellar! And doing all three Peaks is entirely optional...We will commence the Main Party on the Main Peak and go from there....
We'll plan on Meeting up at the Intersection of the Bush Highway and the Turnoff to Butcher Jones...3.0 Miles from the Beeline Highway...There are a few places to Park right there with other spots fairly close by.....9:00 A.M. I will PM those committed with my Phone Number before the Event. Hope you all join us!

Re: the New Year's Day Tradition Continues.....
Well, I have to cancel - I just found out I'll be stuck in the midwest a couple more days.
I've been up Stewart Mountain a few times, checking on a benchmark that tends to easily get 'buried' under the sand. It's on the highest/furthest peak.
The benchmark is located in a small open area just below, and off the highest pile of rocks, toward Saguaro Lake.
If it's not 'buried' again - you'll easily find it. Two Reference marks are nearby also. (They'll never get buried.)
Also, there's two summit logs on that far peak (in little glass jars) atop the high pile of rocks.
The other two peaks also have summit logs, and for those inclined, there are geocaches on each of the three peaks also.
Check out the micro wave reflector too, on the east peak - you can't miss it.
I find, hiking up between the first two mountains is easiest if you stay just to the left of the actual drainage. It's a fun 'boulder hopping' time.
I was looking forward to meeting some HAZ hikers, as I have only met one (a 30 second visit with Sirena, as we passed each other on a trail last year).
Anyway - have fun and say "HI" to Stewart Mountain Triangulation Station for me.

Re: the New Year's Day Tradition Continues.....
What a great workout for a short hike! Thanks Pam for setting it up and providing the snacks (I know I ate more than my fair share ;) ) and bubbly.
it was a perfect way to start off the New Year!
Not my first HAZ group hike, but I knew very few of this group. It was great meeting everyone.
