This is a great opportunity for anyone wanting to give and receive some help on one of the tougher AZT segments. Don't worry about the trail work, there will be plenty of people to show you what to do. There is excellent camping on this passage, and it's down hill. (Serious downhill, make sure your boots fit.)
This Arizona Trail Association work event is co-sponsored by the AZ Trail Segment Steward for 12A (Marshall Gulch to Romero Pass) and Tom’s Sawyers. We will be clearing deadfall, brushing and grubbing AZT segment 12A. Most of the work is between the junction of the Mount Lemmon trail with the Wilderness of Rocks trail and Romero Pass.
We will be backpacking into the area the afternoon Friday, April 4th. We’ll hike in from Marshall Gulch to the last good campsite (TBD) before the Mount Lemmon Trail junction. Friday won’t involve much trail work but will position us for Saturday. Saturday we’ll work the trail to Romero Pass and then continue downhill on the West Fork trail to camp at the junction with the Cathedral Trail. Sunday we will hike out to Sabino Canyon where, through arrangements with the FS, we will have vehicles parked at stop 8 to get us out.
Contact the steward at drabb@cox.net, tell them you saw the event posted on HikeArizona.
