Realistic chances to get to Bill Hall Trail April 2014

Post by Jozgrdn »

I just got a permit to hike the Thunder River Trail off the North Rim April 9-12 and am wondering if anyone has ever accomplished getting to the trailhead at this time of year. I talked to the folks at Jacob Lake Inn and there's no snow on the ground currently, and the ongoing western drought looks....er...promising for a trip. But I have also experienced blizzards on the South Rim in April in a wet year...Any feedback/advise? Trying to decide if the risk is worth it when spendy plane tickets are involved.

A few years ago we canoed from Bull Head city to Lake Havasu. We camped out two nights. Great time! :D

I have a T-shirt that says "I can row a boat" on the front, and "Canoe?" on the back. My daughter had it made up for me for this past Christmas, since it was one of those oft-repeated parental jokes, the kind the kids learn to groan about by the time they are 13.

And yes, I'd like to do that run, and the entire lower Colorado, in fact. I'm working on it quite a bit this year.
