Monsoon alive and well over here in Cloudcroft... nice shower every day... 59 degrees here midday. It's rough!

I knew the second I posted this the clouds would start rolling in. Now there's a FORTY percent chance of rain Thursday night. I can kick this sucker into overdrive but I'm too lazy to go wash my car now.joe bartels wrote:Forget being over, it never really started this year!

Re: The coming of the Monsoon.
Escudilla: There is NO SIGN at the turnoff, other than the binoculars sign.
From Springerville: Going east on Springerville Main Street (US 60) you will come to a Y intersection. 60 is to the left, 180/191 to the right. I think a sign says "Alpine." Take the right toward Alpine.
OR:
From Eagar: Go east from the stoplight. SR 260 merges with 191/180, so no turns necessary.
Once you are past the village of Nutrioso, which is about 15 miles from Springerville or Eagar, the highway starts going up a hill. You are watching for a BROWN SIGN WITH A PICTURE OF BINOCULARS on it. That is the only sign. Once you make the turn there is a sign that says "Hulsey Lake, Terry Flat." Follow that road until you get to the trailhead. If you are planning to hike the longer Government Trail you'll need the HAZ directions as well. There is no sign for it. There is a sign for the main trail, though.
There is only one stoplight in Springerville and only one in Eagar. The way you can tell which town you are in is that Springerville has the pink sidewalks and the Safeway. Eagar has white sidewalks and a Bashas'. If you get lost, ask how to get to Alpine.
Incidentally, no matter what any local person tries to tell you, "Nutrioso" does NOT mean "Beaver-Bear." It is a Spanish word. It literally means "Beaverous." Put that in your pipe and smoke it!

I'm washing my truck in the morning. Hanging clothes on the line to dry. And going camping without a tent or tarp. Anything else I can do to help?joe bartels wrote:I haven't washed the car. Sorry guys. Please somebody take one for the team.

Leave the windows in your truck down ;)
Have a BBQ tomorrow night
I'll get a hundred of my closest friends to come over, this will work out one way or the other!

Re: The coming of the Monsoon.
I took it. Washed my car on Tuesday AND raked the yard. It's still raining here in the Old Pueblo. Only .3 inches at my place, but I'll take whatever I can get.

Re: The coming of the Monsoon.
Thanks Wendy, you ROCK!
The storm that hit Thursday morning in the valley albeit not flashy was certainly welcome. Especially since it was a cleansing rain. They seem to either swing car-washers-dream or residents-rejoice
Interesting to note in the forecast, it's old school... the overnight lows for the next seven days are all in the seventies. We had very little of the 90 lows this year, a lot of mid eighties. In recent years past it would go a week to weeks without dipping below 90 at night.

Re: The coming of the Monsoon.
Yah... because there's no monsoon moisture to keep the heat in. Dry air cools at night quite nicely. I'm enjoying the cooler mornings, but I think I'd rather have the crazy wet summer we had last year.

Re: The coming of the Monsoon.
Thursdays' storm had more flash in the southwest valley. At Luke AFB there was a microburst that tore a 6ft x 8ft hole in the side of an f16...according to a news report on Wednesday. And in Buckeye there were great amounts of lightning and rain. Where I live it was just a really good continual rain that helps the plants, etc.
