Photoset - what do you look for?

Just curious about what makes a HAZer tick, I guess.

I look at all the photosets for 2 reasons: I learn alot from other photographers in terms of composition, lighting, etc and I like to learn about all the trails, since I just became a serious hiker a year ago. I appreciate everyone's pictures and triplogs. : app :

It's interesting, I fight with the photo bug a lot. I don't want to see every place I go only through the figurative lens of a photograph, but I also get a lot of joy out of looking at good photos - both mine and other folks. I often find that as I go on with my hiking and look at old hiking photos, I notice that the way I'm seeing trails and landscapes is constantly changing - and I can observe that with the photography. Not only do seeing all the different photographic techniques, angles and compositions give me ideas about photography, but they also give me ideas about how to view the world differently. For example, I never really laid down on the ground in a field of wild poppies before - but now, I have. And it rocks!

I also think that doing "photo journals" of hikes is a good way to give people an idea of what they'll find when they get out there. It can definitely up the excitement level for a certain area.... There are more than a few hikes that I want to do, not by their description, but by the photos I've seen!

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but I wanted to say that you guys have been posting lots of sweet pics lately. The recent canyoneering pics are right up my alley, and they've really made me "home sick" for AZ. Thanks for keeping me entertained in boring ol' Ohio. Fortunately, I'm moving to New Hampshire in a few weeks. That's another story though.

Anyway, te-wa, preston, suzaz, azpride, skatchins, nonot, those who are slipping my mind right now... you're all posting great photos. Just thought I'd let you all know I appreciate looking at them.

Keep up the good work guys! I love it.

usually, for trails i might be interested in adding to my "to do" list... but often to see if someone really captured a great moment on a familiar trail. Rarely for the high end "quality moment" shot... although this site scores those in a big way.
