I used to hike with someone like that. But what our friend brought to share was a lot more interesting than candy! ;)

So...it's cold up here. I rode my bike to work today at 6:30, and it was windless, and I was thinking that during my midday break I would go for a bike ride before the wind hit. But the wind hit while I was there, so I had to ride home against it. Oh wah wah. So now I'm thinking of going for a hike instead. I'll hike in any weather, but I won't bike in any weather.

Cold and windy last night, but no snow. In fact, all the clouds blew away in the evening...

We had snow balls in Payson.... just enough to make the dust we got during the day make a mess on the car...

Looks like a dusting across the SF Peaks, Fort Valley, Forest Lakes, and Sunrise. So much for 3-6 inches, huh?

The picture with the Flicker is nice. It is dry in Flagstaff, and the NWS adjusted their extremely optimistic forecast of "1 to 3 inches" down to a realistic "little to no accumulation". I am shocked that this has happened. I can't believe we didn't get the early blizzard they were predicting! It has been cold: 19 over night and its only 29 now. We will probably be in the teens tonight.

WE HAVE SNOW!!! So there! A nice little early season storm. About 1 to 4 inches around the two towns here in Round Valley. I just hiked Flat Top with Eagar's mayor (she's my hiking pal) and it was slow going due to about 2 to 3 inches we had to hike in, trying not to slip on hidden rocks. I took a few photos, will post the hike and photos later. From the top of the rim of Flat Top, looking north toward Poverty Flat, we saw about 20 elk, including a pretty big bull. I have a lousy camera, so I'm sure I didn't get a photo of him worth posting, though.

The plows had started early before I did my bus run this morning--we didn't have a delayed start. It was pretty warm earlier today, and by 8 am was starting to melt, but now it has gotten colder again. There are scattered snow showers over the mtns. right now. I expect Green's Peak and the other mtns. would have a few more inches. I'll find out later after I've talked to people who drive the school bus to Greer, Nutrioso, Sunrise Ski Area, etc. (Yes of course I would like to drive to Sunrise every day! The lady who does that has about 20 years seniority over me, though! She sees elk every day.)

Snow flurries in Flag right now. Some are sticking to the roofs and lawns but most are just melting as soon as they land.

It's 29 degrees here in town right now at 4:30 p.m., the sun is shining, but there are huge banks of clouds over the mtns. and I'm sure it's snowing up there. A lot of what fell has melted in town, but I wouldn't be surprised to wake up to another blanket of it tomorrow morning.

jhodlof wrote:The summer monsoon is gone. Maybe it will be active next year. Now it's on to winter. Obviously, we'll get some rain before we get snow, but that isn't too interesting. When will we get the first lasting snows of the 2009-2010 season? Will Snow Bowl be open under highly favorable el nino conditions that drop 4 feet by Thanksgiving Weekend? Will this winter produce like we want it to?
So back to the OP (or at least the revised OP).... Today will definitely NOT go down as the first lasting snow. At least if by "lasting" you mean it will still be there a few days from now.

I'll bet you it is going to stick up on Mt. Baldy longer than 4 days. It is COLD right now, and apparently there are still scattered snowshowers going on up in the high country. I know there is a warming trend coming, but I'll bet on the higher ground it will last a bit. It will be fun to see what happens, anyway.
