Kaiparowitz and Navajo Mountain are covered in snow this chilly morning.

Brrr, it has been cold and cloudy all day, with light snowfall, nothing stayed, but what was here from yesterday on the lawns and roofs--a lot of it is still there. Brr. I want to go to Yuma! Or better yet, Costa Rica!

We SO weren't ready for the cold, either. Don't have the heater going yet, and don't have time to do the evap-heater switcheroo. Just wearing my fleece around the house and making warm drinks!

Sounds like it's going to be a wonderful time to hike the canyon, though! Woot woot!

Don't let those swamp cooler tubes freeze! Pain in the neck! ;)

Have to say, I sure like swamp coolers over AC. I know they don't work well when it's humid, but I like that you have to leave the windows cracked a bit, and you aren't all closed in. Way cheaper, too.

My son was saying they don't use them much in Phoenix, but we were driving around a neighborhood and about half the houses had them. Not sure they were in use, though. Maybe during the dry heat months.

10" over here in Cloudcroft.... with dustings down below 6,000'... looks like I moved down the hill just in time. Now, I get to hike up into the snow instead of trudging around right out my door.

Been dry out there. Apparently, it is the driest year on Record since 1899 in Flagstaff. Since January 1, we haven't even had 8 inches of precipitation in Flag.

I won't complain if it rains in the Galiuros, but I would rather it not snow deep enough to obscure the trail.

Tucson's at 5.54" - yeah, only 7" below normal*. Ak.

I don't think I'll go as far as Chumley, though... Last time we got that kind of rain, it ruined Sabino Canyon. How about just a season or two of good, steady, slow, soaking rain. And maybe a storm or two for fun...on weekends when I'm home cleaning the house :D

*before you all jump all over my patootie, I am fully aware of the controversy over precipitation norms out here. Just using it for comparison's sake. Jeesh.

I'd be happy with heavy snows this winter, that'd mitigate the potential damage down stream and increase our water table at the same time.. potentially at least. Actually, I'd just like to snow camp this winter.. down here.. and actually get to dig INTO the snow for shelter :sl:

norms or not, I'm not aware of anyone who could effectively argue that this was not an unusually (and upsettingly) dry year.

I think the White Mtns. were doing okay with rain up through Sept. Not great, but okay. We had late winter snow, May rain, some summer monsoon, lots of rain in Sept. Nothing much since then other than 4 inches of snow at the end of Oct. It is pretty dry here now. That fire is still burning in Bear Wallow Wilderness, and we had so much smoke from it yesterday afternoon that I did not do my after work bike ride as I had planned.

Genuine rain outside. I think we haven't had any, or this much, since September. I had to cancel my MGS stop in Sedona. It's worth it.

It's starting to come this way! I have indoor plans, although I like hiking in the rain, need to get some stuff done at home.
