Kendrick loop day hike - Friday, July 31

Post by azdesertfather »

OK, I'm seeing a lot of people posting interest in Friday hikes...in addition to myself and a few buddies who also have Fridays off oftentimes. Let's give it a shot...who's in for a day hike on Friday the 31st? Post interest here, and places of interest.

I've been interested in checking off another chunk of the Highline Trail...I've done See Canyon TH to 260 TH, but want to do everything else west of See Canyon TH. Mostly, I think what would be ideal is somewhere within a couple of hours drive tops from Phoenix so the heat won't be totally unbearable (100 or less)

OK, we need to make a decision for Friday. I think we're going to need to do 3am :yuck:, so that we can as much done as possible early, before any rains come. 30% chance in Flagstaff currently that afternoon, according to Weather Channel. We need to pick a location as well to meet up.

For those of you who have done these trails, is there any part of any of them that is above the treeline? If and there's some way we can cover that first, that might be better.

There's more trees on the upper & #22 than anywhere else so it should work out fine.

I will know by tonight or tommorow if I can do this one. If all goes as planned, we'll be at the TH about 5:30am and may have room for two more passengers.

So how many are we talking about at this point for sure? For those "Interested", are you going? Will help us decide if we'll need one driver or two

I have some problems with the car I was going to take for this trip.

I am still interested in this hike and would like to go if I can catch a ride with someone.

I am coming from Northeastern AZ so I will not need a ride and I don't believe any of you guys are on my route to pick up. I have two times for meeting at the trailhead, 5:30 and 6 am, so I can assume 5:30 and bring a book if need be?

Joe's time 6-615 is probably the "official start time" especially if they leave at 3am as planned.

Denny and I like to start a little earlier. Our jobs start early so we're used to waking up earlier.

So, we are aiming for 530 which is right at sunrise. I will commit by tonite.

Ok, final plans...looks like only 5 of us from the Valley. Any possibility of us getting in 1 car? Danny volunteered to drive, but his car only comfortably holds 4. My Civic's even tighter than his car.

There are 3 of us from Chandler/Chandler border area, then Bob off 101. Should we meet somewhere off the 101 loop in Scottsdale?

Since I am the newest member of this hiking expedition… I will have to figure out how to get there.

I have other cars that I can take – no problem but would hate to drive by myself at 3AM….
I am working on some things and maybe will drive up there tonight, sleep in the hotel and hike first thing....Otherwise I will have to cancel :sorrry:

Rlrjamy, are you still planning on starting at 5:30 if so, I will meet you at the TH. How will I recognize you? Do you look as your profile photo? ;)

Why sleep in a hotel when there's such good dirt to sleep on up there? :)

I'll come up to you and show you the secret HAZ handshake. :) or I'll be sitting next to you.

I think people are still working on driving arrangements. Check this thread or PM dshillis.

Mountain Ginger, u still up 4 meeting us at the trailhead in the morning? If MARLIN stays in Flag tomorrow maybe you two could meet up to drive to Kendrick.

MARLIN, could also see today if there isn't one big car available, who else might want to drive and we just split up in 2 cars.

MARLIN, are you ok with the distance/difficulty of this one, do you think you can go the whole loop or possibly just make it a little shorter for yourself? Haven't met yet so wasn't sure

I hope I am….. But I’m not worrying; there will be four of you to help out fellow hiker… :stretch:

Joking aside, the distance and the difficulty should be no problem.
