hey hey the Face!

just to let y'all know, i am going to sit this one out. yes, i am.

use caution reaching the t/h. id advise 4x4

i can attest to doing two bar to woodbury, it was an asspain. i would bow to those who can do tule to peralta. that is a sick, sick idea. im not worthy!

however long the shuttle is along the old apache trail, it sure is a pretty drive.

water, in my experience:
walnut spring on the 2 bar tr. then pine creek on the gap tr then reavis, then nothing till you get to either: plow saddle, or a possible seep at frog tanks spring, then take fraser cyn and find a spr. there just b4 dripping springs, then the reed water windmill, then nothing unless bark's has a pool or two (unlilkely)

be safe, i'll call ssar and have them awaiting a bunch of crazies in fraser canyon, tired hungry or dead. :)

Since this is thanksgiving weekend most should have Friday off. The overnight group (if somebody wants to start one) could go west to east starting Friday and the mentally unstable day hikers would go east to west starting early Saturday. I'd give a key to the overnight leader in case somehow the 2 groups didn't connect.

I'd suggest keeping the keys with the vehicles and letting participants know where to find them. Stuff happens, and like I always say "the truck is no good without the key and the key is no good without the truck". Sometimes someone needs to 'bail-out' or otherwise return to the origin point. Or....
Anecdotal support .....this past June... Sally, who stayed in camp, had to move 4 trucks out of the way of the Weatherford fire while we were out hiking. 4 trucks saved because the keys were WITH the vehicle. Ya never know.....

Oh what the heck. If Drewsbitch can commit, I'm pretty low on brain cells myself. :D But I'm definitely leaning towards that 2 day backpack option. I can take a group in from Peralta on Friday and do a key swap. Good point Kurt on keeping the keys around the vehicles. Maybe tough it out on day 1 and backpack all the way from Peralta to Reavis to camp. That's what, maybe a 23 mile day 1? Then an "easy" day 2 of 14 miles up to Tule trailhead, just how easy depending on Friday night alcohol consumption. ;) I'm starting to get excited. The first epic Supes trip of the winter season is on the books. :y:

Much more brutal, yet the presence of a trail and lack of cholla whacking for miles on end should prove more tolerable.

What time are we talking when we say "early saturday", my hope would be for a meeting time around midnight!!!

Also, I am now "interested" in such a trip...

I was hoping a backpacker group would develop. If so, I'm in!

The issue here is where to camp. Getting to Reavis will be a PITA from Peralta

what about angel basin? sometimes fall rains bring water to fish creek. im in for that camp, if doable.
if a shuttle to woodbury means a car camp base-camp, or an escape route for tired dayhikers, that is an option im willing to discuss as well.

Have you hiked the JF or Hoolie trail recently my friend?

Both of these would be good options to discuss - as November seldom brings enough water to Angel Basin. Recall the original Trans-Supes hike water problem that Stiller solved!

@nonot
nope
may have to do a couple pre hike maintenance trips if it's typical Superstition catclaw obliterating the trail

The comment was in reference to the Cholla fields along the Skeleton Cave route. Are you saying there's major Cholla issues?

Yes, the portable "Xterra Spring" came in handy that trip. I would be interested in a backpacking trip, but between the fact that I'll likely be recovering from my followup shoulder surgery then and that's the night of Roger Waters performing the Wall, I'm definitely out.

It was more in reference to the defined trail part - the JF is pretty faint in broad daylight in sections. The biggest offenders were catclaw on Hoolie and Shrub Live Oak on the JF. Not too much Cholla that I recall.

If anyone wants to finish pruning the Rogers Canyon trail between Angels Basin and the JF Saddle it would make me happy.
