Quirks ( not a HAZ Tracks issue )
- Nexus w/Jellybean off line maps do not work, consider upgrading to 4.4 or higher
- Moto X not working? try "Device only" rather than "High accuracy"
- Android 4.1.1 map freezes, upgrade your device to 4.1.2 or higher
When will HAZTracks app be available on Microsoft mobile platforms?
e-mail response ( sharing for others that may be wondering )
Hi Joe
Would love to get HAZ Tracks on the Windows phone platform as I've read good reviews on app speed and such. In developer forums I've read positive comments about Windows in general in the past year on several occasions. Which is a first in well over a decade!
As soon as someone donates a compatible device for testing would be the first step. Barely squeaked out the iOS version of HAZ Tracks earlier this year. Which then required more expenses for hardware & licensing than anticipated.
Currently not enough overall donations to support everything. For instance, still only have Vista for desktop. Haven't been able to test general browser changes for two years since IE is no longer backwards compatible. It's not a bleak forecast though! The Android version of HAZ Tracks is showing impressive weekend usage. Which in turn should benefit the HAZ community and future development.
Joe: Android HAZ is the bomb. It did stop once while I was hiking, though. It was in the pack pocket at the time, so I'm not sure what happened.
Thanks for an amazing app that takes us one step closer to the one-device-to-rule-them-all...

It would be helpful to know if anyone is experiencing unexpected reboots on 1.8.2.
clarification
Android - running other apps will close HAZ Tracks in 10-60 seconds ( I told Jack wrong ), yet should work backgrounded or sleep
iOS - should work with other apps, backgrounded or sleep ( CHUMS said HAZ audio stops other apps with audio in progress, ie: music )
@joe bartels
I will update to the new version IOS when I get home. Now that I have full clean bill of health I'll be doing more training hikes. I have 1.8.1 and had it with screen off and locked and I had no problems with the app. and the track distance and AEG WAS comparible to my 450t FYI. I didn't have other things running, but I did take photos with the phone and had no problems with a 5s.
Distance is excellent in ALL my experiences whereas Garmin is typically 5% + over.
AEG is not great. More of a hardware issue than software, newer 2015 phones moving forward should get better.
That said the audio intervals ( if used ) can be comical. Better when averaged out over the entire hike.
- it does auto NED Sync when exported to HAZ Tracks, which is then more usable
Presumably due to wifi and cellular triangulation, it does remarkably well in tunnels, parking garages, and even elevators. That has been a real surprise to me and other mall-walkers like me. ;)
I'm not sure what my spirit animal is, but I'm confident it has rabies.
Yup. The program stopped while the device was in my pack - I didn't run other apps that I was aware of. I had no trouble taking photos with the same device, though - that was fairly seamless.

@joe bartels
Do I need to delete 1.8.1 to load 1.8.2? I checked my app update and there was not an alert for the new version. So when I pulled up Haz tracks under apps it just gives me the option of opening my current app.
First check the version at the bottom of the initial screen in the app to know what version you are running. Most have auto updates so there is no need to do anything. If you are indeed on an older version, you can update manually...
Android
- go to google play ( it's called "Play Store" on my phone )
- in the upper left screen, there are 3 lines for the menu, tap it
- select "My apps"
- apps that need updating, if any, will be at the top of your screen
Typically it takes 3 hours for an app to update on Google Play. iTunes typically takes 7 days. This last one is taking longer which I'm guessing is due to a big secret rollout on Tuesday.
( iTunes developer console changed style last Friday night )

That hasn't changed from previous versions? Right?
I don't know how far it goes back. It still updates and runs (after a fashion), but now Google Play finally flags incompatibilities in a more obvious way.
The new iphone has a built-in barometer for more accurate elevation readings. And apparently they have done lots of engineering to help battery life and heat while using the phone with GPS tracking apps. It will be interesting to see. (I can only hope/assume they finally allow the GPS antenna to be used while in airplane mode/cellular off).

I post this for possible trouble-shooting corroboration for others using the app with an iPhone.
I can absolutely guarantee that on my phone HAZ Tracks will pause a recording route if I take a panoramic photo during a hike. It may pause when taking any photo. I have not attempted to shoot a video, but I wouldn't be surprised if pauses for that as well. (Not sure if it has something to do with simultaneously writing data to the phone ... pano photos make some 30+mb files and require some solid processing to do so).
I have an iPhone 4s, running iOS 7.1.2 (the current version) and HAZ Tracks 1.8.1.
I don't think that it has ever paused for any reason other than using the camera app. But I would be interested to hear if other iPhone users can replicate my experience.

I have an IPhone 4s running the same update. I have 3 different GPS Apps and all of them will stop tracking(pause or drop track) if I use my camera or try to access anything that uses my position( weather or google maps or earth)
I just figure it was something I was doing wrong ;)
